Re: AOPA Initiatives
How do I find out who my local AOPA rep is? I've got some questions/issues that need to be brought up to them.

I shot the DPE that I've used a text message and asked her - her response:
"Sounds like fun, when do you want to go do it?"

Re: Aviation Adventures policy...discouraging.
I've had a few encounters with them as well. I now drive to Richmond to fly.
I've made it well known that I'm heading elsewhere to do my flying, but I'm not happy about it.
I've also sent a few (unanswered) emails to Bob Hepp, the owner at Aviation Adventures.

Re: Hangar Recommendations in VA?
What part of VA? (It's a big state!) Near me, try Shannon Airport (Fredericksburg) or Stafford Regional... also depends on how temporary the needs are... Stafford has a waiting list, but I know of a few people who have been in a pinch and needed a week and they've organized something with the owner ...

Re: iPhone 6+
Skunk, Thanks for in-depth review, quick question: I assume ForeFlight appears on the 6+ as an iPhone not iPad app. If so, do you like the interface in this screen size? Do you wish the interface was more like on the iPad? I also have the large iPad Air (with ForeFlight and Stratus) and use it ever...

Re: iPhone 6+
I evaluate technology as function over form. Samsung w/Android definitely provide a quality product. In my case, there are a handful of apps that are requirements for me that are only available in the iOS ecosystem. In the aviation apps world, there are more choices in IOS with Android closing the ...

Re: iPhone 6+
I bought the 6+ because I have a full size iPad Air, and wanted an iPad mini, and the 6+ seems to quench that desire. I also absolutely LOVE the battery life that I'm capable of, and can get a full 18 hour day in one charge without too much of a stretch. Hopefully this mini-review (opinion) helps s...

Re: Has anybody tested ForeFlight or WingX Pro on an iPhone
What do you want to know? Since ForeFlight hasn't made any major updates to support the 6+ I can't say that it looks much different than higher resolution, a bit higher performance, and the GPS resolution drops to 5m in a few spots near my house that it normally said 10m. If you've got specific ques...

I agree, and I believe that for the most part, aside from a checkout (which is standard practice) they do exactly that.MovingOn wrote:Personally, I would like to see FBO's rent to anyone qualified per the FAR's.

Re: Sport Pilot Schools that Require a Medical - Help Stop T
I'm currently dealing with this at an airport that offers a sport curriculum, as a reduced cost means to get people up to larger aircraft and the 'reward' of being able to get into the air quicker. It's not an insurance policy, it's set by the owners of the flight school (who, by the way, are poster...

Re: 3rd class medical required for a 162
Bruce - this group isn't Av-Ed - those guys would be phenomenal, but i'm down near RMN, so HOVA in Richmond is actually closer than JYO or GAI.
These 162's are at HEF/JYO/Warrenton (identifier escapes me). We'll see how this all shakes out.

Re: 3rd class medical required for a 162
Just spoke to them, and I truly think it's a situation of ignorance - sad part is that they have 3 sky catchers and don't allow sport pilots to solo unless they have a 3rd class medical. Funny that they will allow a sport pilot, so long as they have a 3rd class, so they are treating it more as a rec...

Re: 3rd class medical required for a 162
I was a business aviation adviser for 3 flight schools in NC that had LSA's, so this topic isn't new to me. This school seems less than happy to ask their insurance company if it's okay, and more happy to tell me to go get a medical or "stick with dual instruction". Their attitude honestly...
