Re: Seeking good way to fuel a high wing with mogas

Cheap and cheerful, but this works great for me:

S&L-Winyer Automatic Portable Battery Operated Liquid Fuel Siphon Transfer Pump, transfer Pump up to 2.4 Gallons Per Minute/Inlet Pipe: 16 in Outlet Pipe:35.6 in https://a.co/d/4gMvpy7

I do have to put the container on a small ladder.

Re: Transponder + ADSB installation

The uAvionix AV-20 is a useful little multifunction unit that includes transponder control. That’s another $900 + installation.

Re: Transponder + ADSB installation

Anyone installed a uAvionix tailBeaconX? Transponder, ADSB out, GPS, antennae, position light all built into one unit. Looks sweet!

Re: Transponder + ADSB installation

Thanks!

Note that I’ve looked into it, I realize that I can live without a transponder. I don’t frequent busy airports, and circumnavigating the occasional Mode C veil is no big deal.

Transponder + ADSB installation

I’m looking at an experimental aircraft for sale. It’s relatively new, and the builder did not install a transponder or ADSB out during the build. It does have a Dynon D-6, which apparently doesn’t support a remote transponder. What’s the most economical way to do this? What is involved? I understan...

Re: Air Park living on the cheap

Just found this inspirational thread!

We’re considering leaving California for a number of reasons. Apart from the mentioned potential issues, an airpark sounds like a wonderful place to live.

912ULS crankcase fretting

So my mechanic says that my 912 is suffering from crankcase fretting. It’s done 900 hours toward its 1300 hr TBO. He suggests that a lighter prop will help. How much fretting is too much? I can feel some resistance between piston compressions when turning the prop, but it’s not that hard to turn. Ex...

Re: Skyranger knowledge & experience?

Finally home! Really fun three day trip, with only a few moments of terror. I really enjoyed taking off half an hour before sunrise, and was happy to get on the ground when the turbulence kicked up across Nebraska, Wyoming, and especially Tahoe. Looking forward to the next adventure! 565AA7BA-2301-4...

Re: Skyranger knowledge & experience?

I left the Skyranger tucked away in a hangar in eastern Kansas. I got tired of waiting for the weather to improve. I hope to get it back to California in the near future. I sold the Corben Baby Ace. It took 18 months to get it repaired, then I moved to northern California. I didn’t think it would be...

Re: Skyranger knowledge & experience?

Well, I chickened out. 🐔 The surface winds are just too brutal to the west.

I hangared it in Kansas, and I’ll go back and get it when the winds are less vicious, and I’ve got more time.

Re: Skyranger knowledge & experience?

Yep. It’s the surface winds in the SW that give me the heebie-jeebies!

Re: Skyranger knowledge & experience?

Thanks, Jim! Still in Chanute, Kansas, waiting for the rain and low ceilings to clear. This should all clear out tomorrow. Plan is to head west at sunrise on Friday, hoping to get on the ground before the winds pick up. Then I’ll wait until the winds drop before a further flight west in the evening....

Re: Skyranger knowledge & experience?

i do have the option of hangaring it here and coming back for it when winds are more favorable. But when is that? Winds in the SW seem to be crazy year-round. One thing I realized today was that I could have headed west at 4pm when the weather broke. I could have flown for 5 hours before dark. Winds...

Re: Skyranger knowledge & experience?

Another phrase comes to mind.

“I’d rather be on the ground wishing I was flying than flying wishing I was on the ground.”

I certainly felt the latter yesterday.
