Re: Pulling the Chute
I also mention the BRS during my takeoff brief. I tell the passenger (or myself if solo) that the chute is available passing 300' (agl, which I convert to msl.)

Re: Buying your own plane for training
This is the first airplane I've owned. There should be another rating for ownership because the amount of knowledge required at least equals that of Pilot Rating. I only wish I would have done it sooner.

Re: Good number of flight hours/day for accelerated training
As previously stated, it is key to have study material done. I insist that my students have the written successfully completed before I'll solo them. My lesson blocks are also about 3 hours depending on the stage. I also provide video for them to review after key flights. My point being that the hea...

They did throw on old line with a bunch of knots in it.So, sailors did not throw a piece of "dead" wood in the water to calculate drift?

I tried G-Metrix yesterday. Not too impressed. I think the data needs to be buffered.

Re: New Camera...
I usually use two cameras, a black Virb on the wing and a white Virb Elite in the cockpit. I typically turn them on during preflight and turn them off during postflight. Post processing begins by synchronizing the GPS track to the video on the Elite. (I usually find I have airspeed before the takeof...

Re: Made The Leap To IPad
I just switched to an iPad mini. wingX Pro 7 is free for CFIs so I've started on the learning curve to understand new HW and SW. I like it, but have not yet become comfortable with it.

Re: New Camera...
I have been using the Virb Elite as my cockpit camera for awhile now. Like it. Some samples are here: http://lsaeronaut.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html I have experimented with different settings but keep coming back to "Ultra Zoom" as my standard set up. I just updated to Virb Edit V...

Re: Soft and Short of it
I think of "turf" fields a bit differently. I guess they are a bit more manicured in this part of the country and obviously more suitable for a PiperSport. I agree a good "groundhog" hole would cause my nose gear a big problem and I always did a FOD walk before taxiing at Butter ...

Re: Soft and Short of it
I did a little work on takeoffs recently. I positioned the camera to watch the nosewheel while doing soft/short field takeoffs. You may find this interesting: http://lsaeronaut.blogspot.com/2015/05/takeoff.html

Start by working with a good CFI. I suspect (as previously mentioned) that your eyes are fixated at the wrong place. I like Rod's explanation: https://youtu.be/Rv5HEJCyTuk

Re-copied the link. Hopefully corrected the problem, not sure why it failed.
