Re: 912 uls very hard time to start
Great idea and also add the Thermax temp strips to each module so you can keep track of how hot they may or may not get. I have the 149° to 199° range strips and they haven't reached 149°. I've wondered how hot mine get. I'd like to put a temporary temp probe on them, but snaking it through the fir...

Re: 912 uls very hard time to start
Re ignition modules: if your problem is hard starting (or NO starting) you may only have to replace one, not both. These things have two modes... START and RUN. To my knowledge the RUN mode is pretty bulletproof. The START mode is known to have problems, but the Rotax will start just fine on one mod...

Re: 912 uls very hard time to start
I'd love to know where to get one of these modules for $350.00 dollars.

Re: 912 uls very hard time to start
Whoa! I hadn't heard about RUN problems like yours, but it's not surprising. Those modules sit right up there on top of the engine where they get good and hot, and heat is the enemy of solid state devices. The other thing that's bad is the way the modules are mounted. They are clamped tightly togeth...

Re: 912 uls very hard time to start
The 2006 -2007 ignition modules have a known starting problem. These modules have two modes: start and run. There is no issue with the run mode, once the engine starts it will run forever. And if ONE start mode works, the engine will start and run. Only when both start modes fail (and they are inter...

Re: Fuel pressure
Some of you may remember my pathetic bleating about low fuel pressure indications in my 2006 912ULS powered Sting Sport. After almost losing it on takeoff at Valle (as I reported) I decided I had to do something or die. Here's what I did. 1. As mentioned in my previous post, I fixed the vapor return...

Re: Rotax safety question
Your vents are likely tucked under the bail that holds the float bowl on. The reason for having the vents routed into the airbox or tucked under the bail when you have K&N filters, is that the vent and the air coming into the carb need to be matching pressures. If the pressures aren't matching ...

Re: Rotax safety question
"Bing carburetors belong on motorcycles." Pretty strong generalization. There are advantages (and limitations) to fuel injection. There are advantages (and limitations) to carburetors. One size does not fit all. Note I said BING carburetors. I didn't say ANYTHING about fuel injection. SU ...

Re: Rotax safety question
Before somebody flames me over my last post, let me just point out a couple of things. 1. I DID NOT advocate connecting the float bowl vent tube to the static line that feeds the ASI, VSI and altimeter. That would be even nuttier than putting it in the airbox. 2. I know for a fact that the vent tube...

Re: Rotax safety question
I don't think the function of the float bowl vent tube is well understood. True, you want to have ambient atmospheric pressure in the float bowl chamber, and a properly installed vent tube (ie, one that is open to static pressure, like the static port on your pitot-static system) will do that. But a...

Re: Fuel pressure, sensor
What you say makes perfect sense. But whatever was blocking my restrictor was HARD, like dried up Loc-tite or ??? I couldn't poke it out with a needle, I had to take a tiny drill to it. I have no idea what it was. You ever see anything like this? In any case, cleaning out the restrictor seems to hav...

Re: Fuel pressure, sensor
Here's a constructive suggestion if you are having intermittent low fuel pressure indications on your Rotax powered airplane. Check the restrictor in the fuel return line that comes out of the "octopus" on top of the engine. It was easy to do, on mine anyway. Pop the quick release hose cla...

Re: 912 uls very hard time to start
Take the top cowl off, put a bag of ice on the ignition modules for about 15 minutes. If the engine starts right up after that, you need both ignition modules replaced. Thx. So far, if I let the airplane sit for 30 minutes or so it starts up normally. I think I'll try the timing light test next time...
