Just wanted to see if you were paying attention

Seems to me this would make it even more believable that the carbs (!) can get enough fuel flow with low pressure on the inlet. Two carbs = half the restriction

Re: Fuel pressure, sensor

It depends on the restriction due to the smallest hole or tube the fuel has to flow through. Think of a bucket with a pinhole in the bottom... not much flow. A hole the size of a quarter allows much greater flow rate. I'm guessing the governing restriction in the fuel systems we're talking about is ...

Re: Fuel pressure, sensor

With the usual disclaimers about not being an expert of any sort ... I've flown for 10 minutes with the fuel pressure showing "0". I can assure you, there was some pressure there, because that big fan looking thing on the front of my airplane, kept turning. Good one :D Another thought: fu...

Re: Fuel pressure, sensor

Electric Pump: doesn't solve my problem, although I still turn it on. Sorry to hear that. Obviously your situation is different than mine. My aux pump ALWAYS brings the fuel pressure back up. New Kavlico Senders: show a minimum of 1.2 psi. So if your pressure were zero it would still show 1.2 I don'...

Re: Fuel pressure, sensor

I know exactly how you feel, I've had the same problem intermittently for years. And so have a lot of other pilots. The interesting thing is, I'm not aware of a single forced landing or crash due to this "low fuel pressure" phenomenon. Anybody? Like you, I've done everything practical to i...

Re: Fuel pressure, sensor

I use a 50cc plastic syringe (http://www.ebay.com/itm/50ml-Plastic-Syringe-Large-Thumb-Grip-Syringe-50cc-NEW-/261119076907) - the tip is a push fit into my vent hose. I just push it into the outside end of the hose and pump the plunger in and out. It will be very obvious if the hose is blocked. Snak...

Re: Fuel pressure, sensor

Yes, it happens. Checking the vent(s) for obstructions should be part of the preflight. Ernest K. Gann tells an exciting story about some mechanic who forgot to take the masking tape off a vent in a C-87 prior to takeoff, which meant they couldn't get fuel out of that tank. Of course they had multip...

Re: Fuel pressure, sensor

FWIW: I have verified that the main tank vent on my StingSport is unobstructed. Has no bearing on the intermittent low fuel pressure indication that I get. The vent tube opening is part of the fuel pickup/level sensor assembly that goes into the top of the fuel tank. This opening is located about an...

Re: Fuel pressure, sensor

The fuel return line also helps to prevent vapor lock. There IS a restrictor in this line, in order to maintain fuel pressure at the carbs. The theory is, circulating fuel back to the tank keeps the contents of the fuel lines in the engine compartment cooler, and any vapor bubbles that do form will ...

Re: Fuel pressure, sensor

My 2c worth: I have a 2006 StingSport low wing, 912ULS, fuel tank under the front cockpit floor. Grand Rapids Tech. Engine Information System which monitors and displays fuel pressure along with most other engine parameters. Fuel pressure is the only one that has ever shown anomalous behavior. I hav...

Replacing a StingSport Main Gear axle bearing

It's best to press sealed bearings out of their housing but I couldn't see any way to press these out. There is a shoulder in the wheel bearing housing so you can't (for instance) just press the outboard bearing out by pressing the inboard one in and letting the spacer tube push the other out. I fin...

Re: brake pads for StingSport

I'm one model newer than you -- Sting S3. I'm guessing that they were on skeleton staff in the office during Sun-n-Fun and Aero Friedrichshafen but should be at full office strength this week. They uploaded pictures on the Facebook page yesterday unloading a Sirius so looks like business as usual. ...

Do you fly an SS? I've had some issues contacting SportAir lately... wondering if it's just me....

Re: brake pads for StingSport

Thanks. Never thought of Ebay. This is about 1/4 the price the distributor gets, if they have them at all.
