I soloed at 12 hours and passed my checkride with 22. I have said it before and I will say it again, the instructor makes all the difference in the world. I was lucky and got training from an OUTSTANDING CFI that made learning fun and easy. Once I had confidence in myself the rest was easy. I also a...

By all accounts Tecnam should be able to dethrone Flight Design on the strength of their product, but I suspect that the old reputation for awful support is what drags them down. Buyers may be wary and waiting to see if things are improved. I am eager for any new reports of repairs and service. Tha...

BTW - Stalls are AWESOME! I had to do four stalls for my checkride, it was a hoot. Power off, Power on and Accelerated Stalls to the left and right. I couldn't find anything requiring an accelerated stall in the sport pilot practical test standard. Was there a reason why you were tested on it? Not ...

I finally found my answer one day as I was flying solo amongst scattered clouds. Some were scattered low, hanging below me as if I were at 20K ft, others were in my way as I danced around them to remain VFR. I was just awestruck at the beauty I was being allowed to see, in a way that no one other t...

NO, Rotax is the engine for you. Jabiru is the engine for me and a lot of other flyers out there with LSAs. Jabiru, Lightning, some Sonex and even a Rans 19 now.

I don't know too much about the operations but the plane looks like a HOOT. I want to see how it fairs out once deliveries start taking place.

Dave is exactly right, you can go from S-LSA to E-LSA very easy. If you ever change your mind it is much more difficult to go back and MUST have manufacture's approval.

Re: Excess HP LSA

Idle curiosity question: is the throttle artificially retarded to force compliance or is the Lightning (and Cub) placarded to "Do not exceed 2850 RPM"? I'm assuming it's placarded and/or part of the operating limitations. If so, could one take S-LSA to straight Experimental? You'd need to...

The Lightning certainly is sleek, and (potentially) fast. I thought the Jab 3300 was heavier than the Rotax 912. Any idea how the useful load compares to the other S-LSAs? Empty weight directly from my POH is 835 lbs I have full glass w/ synthetic vision and 30 gallons of fuel 2850 RPMs will yield ...
