Re: LSA training in Eastern PA?

http://www.newgardenflightconnection.com/#splash Check New Garden Flight Connection out. They have a Pipistrel Alpha Trainer LSA although I heard it had some issues with the pilot's side door. I don't know if the issue is resolved yet. I only flown with them once last year. It's about 30 to 40 miles...

Were you comfortable explaining to your fellow pilots you became a sport pilot because of a medical reason?

If a fellow pilot or CFI asks you why you decided to become a sport pilot instead of private pilot, how did you answer that question? Particularly, I am wondering for those of you who decided to become a sport pilot because of having issues with getting a 3rd class medical for private pilot, were yo...

Congress wants Balloon Pilots to have Medicals - Will it affect sport pilot and gliders too?

https://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news/Congress-Demands-Medicals-for-Balloons-229817-1.html After a fatal balloon accident that killed 16 people, Congress now want balloon pilots to have FAA medicals even private balloon pilots! My question is that if the bill became law for balloon pilots to require...

If a U.S. Sport Pilot moves to another country, can he convert his SPL to the new country's equivalent of the U.S. SPL?

I have a hypothetical question. Say if a pilot with an FAA Sport Pilot Certificate with a driver's license medical in the U.S. moves to another country where they have their own equivalent of Sport Pilot in the U.S. like Canada, UK, or Australia. Would it be possible for the person with a U.S. FAA S...

Re: Moved to Philadelphia: Sport Pilot Training options?

Hey everyone. I am looking at the possibility of going back to flight training for sport pilot although right now I am undecided. Trying to see if I have the money and could dedicate my time to flight training. I checked out New Garden Flight Connection yesterday in Southern PA. The school was okay ...

I thought the Skycatcher is unable to do spins, or at least very difficult to spin.

Re: Moved to Philadelphia: Sport Pilot Training options?

OP: welcome to the Philly area! I think I asked in the past and don't remember your answer: any particular reason you're solely going for the sport pilot license vs. your private? Not questioning your decision, but I'm just making sure you're not limiting yourself when it comes to options. I just d...

Re: Moved to Philadelphia: Sport Pilot Training options?

Clermont was formerly Cecil County Airport, it is just south of Elkton MD, only about 30 minutes from Philly. Harford County is not a bad drive because it is just off I-95. Thanks for the help Joe! I have one more question for you or anyone to answer. Is it true that some flight schools who have an...

Re: Senate passes pilot bill of rights 2

I'm fine with doing flight training to be a sport pilot someday still. It's just there are so few flight schools with LSAs in the U.S. that is making the private pilot certificate more appealing for me (but I don't think I would be able to pass a 3rd class medical anyway so sport pilot and glider ar...

Re: Moved to Philadelphia: Sport Pilot Training options?

I don't know if you found anything yet, there are a few choices if you are living south of PHL. There is New Garden just past Kennett Square PA, Harford County Airport has a Cessna Skycatcher, and there is an Ercoupe at Clermont that the owner will train in. Thanks for the help Joe. New Garden Airp...

Re: Possible to make a living as a CFI or even a Sport CFI?

Quick question about flight instructing compared to other aviation flying jobs. Is flight instructing at a flight school more of a 9 to 5 (or morning to evenings) kind of gig albeit working on weekends compared with the life of a regional airline pilot? How does the life of a CFI compare to a region...

Re: Moved to Philadelphia: Sport Pilot Training options?

Thanks for the response drseti. Queen City Airport for AB Flight is still almost exactly the same drive time from my home in Philly compared to where I used to live in NJ, an hour and 15 minutes approximately, while Lancaster Airport with Liberty Sport Aviation is about an hour and 45 minutes from P...

Re: Moved to Philadelphia: Sport Pilot Training options?

You've already named the two closest options. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either of them. Both Art and John have been very helpful to me in getting my own business up and running. There is a wonderful sense of cooperation, not competition, in the LSA community. Thanks for the advice everyone! ...

Moved to Philadelphia: Sport Pilot Training options?

Hello everyone. I moved to Philadelphia about a month and a half ago. Started a new job working at PHL in airport ops! I am looking for any flight schools in the Philly area that does sport pilot training later down the road after I get settled in my new job. I might consider PPL Glider training too...
