Training in a experimental from a club

Soon I'll be joining the CFI club and would like to start giving training ASAP. I do not have a SLSA, but I do own a experimental Drifter. I know the general rule is you can't rent the plane out for training, but you can sale your services I believe. The rule is not really clear to me. So, I want to...

Re: Damn accidents !

You're right about that, not a good week in Central Florida. I'm watching the news right now, but they don't have many details on the Lakeland crash. They released both names that's really all they know. The plane was burnt beyond recognition. It's a sad day man. Always hits you hard when a fellow ...

Re: Damn accidents !

You guys aren't going to believe this, but I seen the plane that crashed today in lakeland probably about 10 seconds before it went down. I drive a truck for plastipak, I transport empty plastic bottles from the plant on county line road to our warehouse on 92. The plant is directly across from the ...

Fatal Aventura crash at Sebring Expo

This is sad news, but yesterday about 11am at the annual U.S. sport aviation expo, a Aventura crashed killing both occupants. From what I heard from a few witnesses is that the plane was in a rather tight slow turn when it fell to the ground. I don't know if it spun, but given what I heard then that...

Can I do my own work?

I have a Maxair Drifter MU-582 that needs new sails and gear legs. Is that something I can do myself or do I need a A&P to do the work for me or just sign off on it. I am not the original builder of the aircraft. I appreciate the help.

Re: Hey guys, I got an idea how to make SP more popular

Can you add the VG's then get it recertified to bring the gross up to 1320? I know that would cost a pretty penny, but wouldn't cost eventually be offset by making the aircraft more appealing to a broader market. People associate a higher gross with safety, at least thats one of the things I look at...

Re: Sport Pilot to Private Pilot.

Brian, since you did your SP with an FAR61 Subpart H CFI, all your hours (and acquired skills) count toward the Private. You will of course need some additional training, and maybe a long XC, if you haven't already accomplished that mission as a solo SP. I've put together an upgrade course for folk...

Re: Hey guys, I got an idea how to make SP more popular

Brian, I believe what you were told. That was exactly the situation with the SportStar. Later, Evektor made a vortex generator kit available, which lowered the stall speed, allowing the gross weight to be increased to 1320. Perhaps AeroTrek will take a similar approach downstream. I asked why VG's ...

Re: Hey guys, I got an idea how to make SP more popular

Paul, when flying the AeroTrek did you happen to learn from the owner what the limiting factors are that keeps its MTOW below 1320? Given that AeroPro adapted the Avid kit-build design into production as the AeroPro, it would seem they had the option to build it up to that larger MTOW, at least wit...

Sport Pilot to Private Pilot.

Hi, recently I received my SP license and currently have 70 hrs of flight time. A buddy of mine offered me a great deal that I cannot pass up on. He offered to help me get my private at a great discount. My question is, what hours can I use from SP and what training can I use. My instructor I receiv...

Can I fly a single seat with a student pilots license.

I'm thinking about buying a little single seat, something relatively cheap that I can use to build time in. I have a few grand saved and am scouring the internet as we speak looking for something. My question is since I only have a student certificate, can I get a endorsement from a instructor to fl...

Do you need a legal WX briefing to fly?

A buddy and I are having a disagreement about weather or not when flying 10 miles out of the vicinity of your airport, do you need to call a WX briefing center give them your tail number and get a briefing before flight. I said no, you can use other means to gauge the weather, ATIS, T.V., internet.....

I just went to Freeport last week and had a wonderful time. One day snorkeling and kayak trip to Paradise Cove. Beautiful flight over and back and clearing Customs at Ft Pierce was a piece of cake. Don't let customs catch you bringing back a cooler full of rock lobsters from there...they'll get ya ...
