Re: Rotax questions...a few more!

Thanks for the replies. I had not previously heard of any issues nor did my web search turn up any.

I suppose there is just the tiniest chance the importer in question may have been interested in selling me an in-stock carbureted version. Naw, that couldn't be it.

Re: Rotax questions...a few more!

Sorry if this is off-topic but it seems to fit among 'Rotax questions'. Is anyone aware of multiple in-flight failures in Europe of the 912iS? An importer of SLSAs told me he was sticking with the 912 ULS until the injected version gets its bugs worked out, because of these incidents/accidents. I am...

Refueling SOP

In another section of the forum, Jack stated, On a flying day, we put the tank in the car trunk and would stop at the gas station next to the airport to fill the tank. A very short drive later, I used a little fuel transfer pump (grounded to the plane) to fill the tank(s)... That got my attention be...

Re: Getting close to 1st solo--Question for CFI's out there

I fly out of KADS (Addison) but KDTO would actually be more convenient for me.

Training in the RV-12 would be really sweet.

Re: Getting close to 1st solo--Question for CFI's out there

If those follow-up solo flights require the comms skills you mention, it would make sense to me that he wants you good to go with the radio, not just the engine and airframe. Good point. Especially in light of this: So, here I am, flying around having had two unanticipated rejections.... what do yo...

Getting close to 1st solo--Question for CFI's out there

My consistency in all phases of flight is improving. Still need to improve my touch on landings but I'm getting there. I train at a busy towered airport under the Bravo, so there is a lot of radio work. I have come a long way in that area but some of the instructions from Regional Approach do cause ...

Holding altitude, heading and airspeed

Training for SP in a Sportcruiser. Being inconsistent at holding heading and altitude; and not holding airspeed through maneuvers all that well. Other than that I'm doing great! My diagnosis: too little use of trim; too much dependence on the instruments instead of the sight picture. Prescription: t...

Re: SportCruiser--handling differences, Classic v. glass pan

The Classic is a 2011 model while the glass panel version is a 2012 model. I don't have the actual dates of manufacture. Your questions made me realize--the planes did not feel different. But the gauges did . I actually used the old-style airspeed indicator in the glass-panel model, since that is wh...

SportCruiser--handling differences, Classic v. glass panel

Today my actual landings were pretty good. (I'm working on my SP cert.) But, man, was I having a hard time holding airspeed and attitude! I was constantly making greater corrections than usual. Probably just an off day for me. But I did have to fly a different aircraft than usual today. I normally f...

Landing Technique

A noted aviation mag recently stated that LSA pilots have found that carrying power all the way thru the flare helps with making smooth touchdowns. Being a student pilot, that sounds to me like a training recommendation. It happens not to be what I have been taught and I am quite sure there are diss...

Bristell--sacrifices to save on weight

In a recent magazine article, the designer of the Bristell is said to have made sacrifices to save on weight. Indeed, the a/c weighs in at a low 715 lbs including chute (as I understand the article). At the same time, the all-aluminum a/c is praised for its top notch construction, extra long main sp...

Re: Landing SportCruiser

Great point, Paul. While I was glad my instinct was to go around, I was disappointed it kicked in too late! More practice required.

Re: Landing SportCruiser--UPDATE

My landings have improved greatly. Thanks for all the great advice on this forum! Actually, I was sort of starting to admire my landing ability. Then, one non-standard approach command from the tower at KADS, plus a low-level gust of wind, brought me back to reality. I did a decent job of getting ba...

Re: First RV12 SLSA N232VA

Yep, very cool. Even with the generic canopy cover in place (as I saw it), the colors and design really 'pop'!
