Re: Skycatcher's End
I have not shut a Rotax down in flight, so I don't know if it will windmill or not. What I do know is that with the engine at idle it will indicate about 400-500 RPM higher on approach than sitting on the ground. This would be close to the 200 RPM increase you see for a direct drive engine. I have ...

Re: LSA, MTOW, VS0, Floats
You have to resort to weak argument because your premise is unsupportable. If you want to have real impact your target should be training. Bring back spin recovery! Simulating that base to final stall/spin entry at altitude is an eye opener and can provide real protection, by learning to avoid. Yes...

As for North Perry: i haven't flown there in over 50 years. When I did, we didn't have controllers, or radios, or electrical systems, or even starters! No problem at all back then, but I suspect traffic has increased a bit since the sixties. North Perry is a circus with the tower. In some ways, it ...

Re: Electronic Flight Bags, legality of electronic charts.
Is there a difference in the §91.103 requirements between a Part 23 A/C and a "light airplane?" The requirments seem to apply equally to both. §91.103 is a bit vague and doesn't specify exactly what "all available information" is. But there is a way to very clearly comply with t...

Re: Electronic Flight Bags, legality of electronic charts.
Since there is zero legal requirement to have charts in a light airplane, there is nothing that would make having a chart in a digital form legal or not.

Sorry, was just trying to point out that he's very incorrect. But, I should have learned by now to not feed the troll.drseti wrote:I think you've taken that discussion far enough, gentlemen. Now, please get back to the battery discussion at hand.

For a claimed lawyer, you sure can't read regulations very well. You sir, fly airplanes. I fly airships.ussyorktown wrote:Airship.

Just what I thought. You have no idea how an airship works. You fly airplanes. Don't claim otherwise.ussyorktown wrote: 1. Ballast-never put my wife in the tail section of my CTSW,

Re: What procedure when CTSW battery goes dead
Sir! I am reading "Stick and Rudder" as I take my morning sheet and he calls them air SHIPS! http://i43.tower.com/images/mm100171216/stick-rudder-explanation-art-flying-langewiesche-hardcover-cover-art.jpg How do you rid in airship? Ok, Mr. Airship driver. How do you ballast an airship? H...

Re: What procedure when CTSW battery goes dead
Not exactly sure how it works for an S-LSA, but in a certificated aircraft, if you don't put the exact same battery back in (make and model) it's not something a pilot can do and return the aircraft to service.

Re: Rotax 912 External Alternator
Does anyone have any personal experience with adding the external alternator to the Rotax 912? Never added it, but I've flown 912's with the 40 amp alternator installed. Didn't seem any different, other than that even with 2 engines, both running the 40 amp alternator, I could have enough stuff run...

. I can't find anything that says the Subpart H CFI has to hold a second class physical that is correct, Jim. But, bear in mind that a Subpart H CFI must hold a Commercial Pilot ceetificate, and one must hold a Second Class medical to take the Comml practical test. So, what I should have said is on...

Re: Voltage Regulator
I'd use the beacon for that. Ah, if you have one! Many S-LSAs (including mine) have no rotating beacon, just strobes. At night, I'd use position lights (plus maybe landing light when taxiing). Just like the Diamond Aircraft, which I've got 100+ hours on. I still am hesitant to turn the strobe on du...

Re: Voltage Regulator
I understand the desire to reduce battery load. However, for safety reasons, if your airport has significant foot traffic, I would strongly urge you to use the strobes from before startup until after engine shutdown. They don't draw all that much power (a lot less than landing/taxi lights), and the...
