Re: Rotax Popularity?

FD CTLS N321FT is approved IFR, so I was told. It has a Rotax 912ULS. Page 1-1 of the CTLS Aircraft Operating Instructions says "The CTLS may only be operated under visual flight rules (VFR)." Unless that particular aircraft has some special permissions, I think you'll find it is not appr...

Seven Rivers Aviation in Georgetown (GGE) is actively considering adding an LSA to the flight line and offering sport pilot training. No firm decision yet, but you might want to let them know of your interest. Call Barry at 843-527-7516. Not so close, but MintAir at Greenville Downtown (GMU) is a Fl...

Your options for a forced landing at night are sharply limited compared to day VFR. In an engine-out situation, you'd better be hoping you are right above an airport or a well lighted interstate without too much traffic and no overpasses or overhead powerlines. The Sport Pilot rules also require tha...

Oh, and here's a couple of fun addendum notes: "here, turn it a few times until you hear it"... "It took us a few minutes to get to the burp. What a relief! This is probably not specific to Remos, but a fun experience." "Apparently there was a fatal crash at Sebring or Sun ...

Your visibility issue was the same reaction I had to the Remos. My first ever LSA flight was in one at the Sport Pilot Expo in Sebring and the visibility to the sides was uncomfortably restricted. I'm 6' tall and had to duck my head to see out the sides. I'm guessing it is a design limitation forced...

There is also a flying club in Des Moines that just bought a CTLS.

I have a CTLS that we use mainly for cross-country flights in the 600-mile range. Typically we fly those with one stop so we don't have longer than 3-hr legs, and we carry 4 hours of fuel. The CTLS is a great cross-country plane with creature comforts like leather seats, lumbar support, and 8" ...

I am hoping to make it. If I can I hope to fly down in our Remos. I would love to demo as many different planes as possible, even the CTLS. That is a great looking plane you have Pawlander! For the record I am part owner of the Remos with Sailboss and only have experience flying the Remos and the C...

Also, Kevin, if you go for the demo ride, see if you can find out the empty weight for the demo plane (not an 'average' number, but the empty weight of that particular plane). Sometimes the brochure-weight of an LSA is quite a bit lighter than the actual weight of typically-equipped airplanes you ca...

2) Sport Pilots including CFI's need training and a logbook endorsement for operations at a SPECIFIC airport if it is a Class D or above field. Your CFIS was not trained properly for that field. Bryan, the way that was worded could easily be misinterpreted by some as meaning a licensed sport pilot ...

With respect to the Class B/C/D endorsement, the FAR's don't specify that you need to fly in each of those to receive the endorsement. You must receive training from an authorized instructor (and logbook endorsement) that certifies "you are proficient in the following aeronautical knowledge are...

The plane that went down in Lock Haven seems to have been a Cessna 210 chartered by the USDA, so I presume that means the professor is okay.

Helen,

That seaplane checkout doesn't qualify as a flight review, does it, like it would for a private/commercial pilot (ASEL) getting an ASES?

We are putting a SeaRey on the line next spring Helen, will that be the LSA version of the SeaRey? If so, can you give an idea of what would be involved for existing Sport Pilots (and higher licensed pilots exercising sport pilot privileges) who want to get checked out in it? And will you be rentin...
