Last Sunday I flew the CTLS to Toledo Metcalf airport (TDZ). The guys at the FBO there are interested in offering light sport training and wanted an example of a light sport airplane there for a fly-in they were having. They had a nice-sized crowd and a lot of people expressed interest in the plane and the light sport license.
I think a lot of people have heard of the light sport license, but associate it with ultra-light type aircraft. Some of the folks who looked at the CTLS were surprised to know that it qualified as a light sport airplane. They really liked the glass displays and other options that the plane had.
I'm amazed at the number of people who have heard of the light sport license but who don't really know anything about it. Maybe I'm just an unfounded optimist but I think there are a lot of folks out there who will pursue their light sport license once more aircraft become available.
The FBO at Metcalf currently does not offer any training and hopes that having a light sport airplane available will get people interested in flying. They asked me a lot of questions about my decision to pursue my light sport license, trying to get a feel for what the typical student might be like.
It was a great day for flying, although I had to head for home a little early because of a front coming through. I had a 30 knot quartering headwind the whole way home, and managed to make a decent cross-wind landing when I got there. I love that composite landing gear. :D |
