|
|
In looking at owning my own airplane I realized I'll likely never want to pay the insurance on something fast or complex, so it might as well be fun. I'm looking at LSA options that have a decent aerobatic envelope, nothing complicated, but I do love doing just basic loops and rolls and whatnot. I have some options nailed down but hoping you guys might be able to point me in some other directions of potential planes.
The ones I am considering,
Century Rally - 5gs and aerobatic, throttle on "wrong side" for pic in my mind though
Century Storm - same as above
Citabria Aurora - 5gs and aerobatic, not an LSA but very reasonably priced at around 110k with basic radio and transponder..drawbacks being fabric covered so a hangar is a must
Any others I should be looking at? I don't really have the time to build something myself, and I'd like to have room for at least one passenger.
I'd like at least a 5g solo load rating and <100k as a reference. |

| it's a tough question, there isn't a lot of overlap, SLSA/aerobatic |

| Rans S-9 or 10, I've seen video of S-7's doing light aerobatics...umm..a properly equipped Kitfox, or perhaps an Acroduster, a Sonerai, there's even ultralights that are rated for aerobatics. It all depends on what exactly you want out of the plane I'm not an expert. Just my own observations. |

Sonex seems to be the most recent design with some aerobatic capability depending on which wing and tail options you have.
If I were doing aerobatics I'd keep the airplane inside. Too many things can happen outside to an LSA.
I have seen video on youtube of Titan Tornado's doing mild aerobatics.
you will probably have a two place airplane that can do mild aerobatics when flown solo.
Clip wing cub is another option. Some of those can be found in standard category.
A Pitts S1C with the lower wings extended one bay and a O-290 with no electrics might make the LSA stall speed limit.
I'd try to get a demo in a Sonex to see how it flies. |
