Not sure if this has been discussed or not, but I just contacted sporty's to ask if they had an offering for sport pilot ground school -- they said they did not, but that they would in about a month or two. I called as I've seen the first dvd of their private course just to see if i liked it or not, and I really did. Some people have told me they find it dry... I'm an engineer for a living, so dry really does work quite well for me.
Aside from this -- what does everybody else use for a video/online ground school? I'd LOVE to have something that I could carry with me on my iPad and watch while I'm on commercial flights or in hotels that didn't require bandwidth. |

My students use the Gleim test prep software (along with the Gleim Sport Pilot books). I find it both comprehensive and affordable. Unfortunately, their disk is Windows-based. I don't believe they have an iPad-compatible version. |

Sporty's came over to our place to film the soft field work. It was a beautiful day and a lovely little grass strip so I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

John & Martha King have been doing classroom programs for over 30 years now, and moved into video and then disk media several decades ago. They have a range of Sport Pilot-related DVDs - their full list can be found here: http://www.kingschools.com/productdetail.asp?itemNo=ETO%20KIT840 Such a collection would allow you to zero in on a topic you might want more info on. Alas, also PC-based.
Some view Gleim as dry while others view the Kings' production style as a bit over the top, and I don't think much of the 3 Sporty's DVD's I've been given (by another less-than-satisfied customer). Consequently, I think viewing the choices before you buy is a good idea. The Kings' website has sample videos available for on-line viewing and you'll find samples of all their DVD products here: http://www.kingschools.com/webvideo/ProductVideos.asp |

| I have the ASA Prepware on both my home computer and Droid phone. It is not a complete training program but it is convenient on the phone and inexpensive. |

Yes, I will be the first to call it a forest fire hazard. It's not at all entertaining (which the Kings certainly are), but it gets the job done at minimal cost. My students consistently score in the 90s on their knowledge tests, after completing the Gleim material. It seems to be tolerated best by the techie types (engineers in particular don't seem to mind the dry presentation style). If you want something flashy, the Kings certainly entertain. And Paul Hamilton's material through ASA hits a good middle ground. In the final analysis, it doesn't make a lot of difference what study material you choose -- they all work. Your success is mostly related to the effort you put in, in preparation for the written. |

Not the best timing, unfortunately. If Sporty's really wanted to make a splash, they'd schedule to release their Sport Pilot material next week in Sebring. |
