I just returned from a 2011 mile cross country trip to Branson (KBBG) from Butter Valley (7N8). I thought you might be interested in some quick analysis: 2011 miles, 18 mpg at an ave $5.60/gal. No tie down, overnight parking or landing fees. It took 2 days to go out and 2 days back in my PiperSport. Highest altitude was 10,500 Ft (bumpers around Pittsburgh) which also gave me my slowest ground speed (45 kts - but smooth air).

How does this work? I do not have enough exposure to Remos yet, but Cherokee definitely likes it high. I always cruise 9500 east, 10500 west, get about 100..105 GPS kts. Going lower slows it down, although indicated speeds grow somewhat. Is this because your PiperSport was near gross all the time and had to fly at greater angle of attack?

Ground speed was slower due to stronger head winds at higher altitude. TAS was about 100 kts.

How many hours/miles did you fly per day and how many stops did you make per day?

Could you have gone more?
