Traveled in the Shenandoah valley last weekend (by car) and encountered a couple of pleasant surprises.
1--stayed at the Holiday Inn in Winchester, VA and awoke to the sound of low-flying aircraft. Turns out I was right under the approach to runway 14 at OKV, Winchester Regional. The airport is in a valley and the hotel is on a hilltop so I got a good look at quite a variety of GA ships coming in. I particularly enjoyed watching a Caravan crab its way in. My elevated perspective above the runway provided an unusual point of view.
2--stopped in Harrisonburg for gas and was shocked to find zero ethanol unleaded at the Royal station on Market St at University. Just pulled in and there it was; I'm more accustomed to an all-out search for that stuff!
It is a beautiful part of our country. I hope to fly over it low and slow one day. |
