| Nicely done. Looks like your soft field landing technique is very good. |

Thanks NCPilot, everything went fine. Not even a scratch ...
Now I fly a very safe PiperSport with a reliable Rotax 912ULS engine: Watch it flying all over Portugal and Spain ...

| Duarte, congratulations on a fine landing - right when it counted most! Your pics remind me when I had to do the exact same thing, on the beach of a South Carolina barrier island. And unlike Cascais, which we enjoyed visiting very much, there were no roads, no people and no connection to the USA mainland on that island...so we had to fix the engine and fly it out. But all's well that ends well. |

Thanks for your reply, Jack Tyler. You almost got away from civilization like Robinson Crusoe ...
What was your airplane and engine when it happened ?
Did you land on dry or wet sand ?

Duarte, the specific a/c I was flying, and its Lycoming engine, were actually incidental to the loss of power. The plane had just been brought out of its Annual Condition Inspection, and the castellated nut holding the throttle cable to the carburetor did not receive its cotter pin when being reassembled by the A&P. Oops...
We landed on dry sand, j-u-s-t between two long, rock wave barriers perpendicular to the beach, just up from the tide line. When I found the nut missing, I reconnected the cable to the carb with some self-amalgamating tape (!) and then flew it off again. Much more to the story (FAA, USCG, salvors waiting to claim the plane) but, from the flying angle, that's what happened. |

We landed on dry sand, just up from and parallel to the tide line. When I found the nut missing, I reconnected the cable to the carb with some self-amalgamating tape (!) and then flew it off again. Much more to the story (FAA, USCG, salvors waiting to claim the plane) but, from the flying angle, that's what happened. Just turned into a good sea story... |

| Jack, I heard that these kind of incidents mostly happen after an airplane has made an inspection ... |

Jepordy answer.
MIF?
What's a mechanic induced failure.
It is one of the common causes of engine issues unfortunately. |

| Thanks for your comment Roger Lee. I never heard the expression MIF before, but I already went through it ... |
