Maybe interesting/useful for LSA pilots....

This is an excellent document, which every pilot (whether of an experimental aircraft or otherwise) should read in its entirety. Thanks, TU16, for posting the URL!

I have long believed that every significant change in the FARs, and every published Advisory Circular, came about as a direct result of one specific accident. After all, the FAA is reactive, rather than proactive. My wife, having heard my lectures on this topic, asked me after I had read to her the introductory paragraph of this AC, "so what accident is this in response to?" Without hesitation, I speculated, "John Denver."

Later, I got to Appendix 7. Though it doesn't mention him by name, or the Long-EZ by type, anyone familiar with that tragic accident will immediately recognize this appendix as being excerpted from that very NTSB report. That sad day at Monterrey was a great loss to aviation, and a greater loss to music -- but also an important lesson to all of us about the importance of getting a very thorough checkout in any plane that is new to us. Please, everybody, read Appendix 7, and take due precautions!

At first blush, I like the AC.

It was a major coup for EAA. The FAA wanted to tweak the FARs to require specific training when transitioning to experimental aircraft. EAA convinced them to go the AC route instead. I hope it works!
