Hi
I live in NYC, but im most of the year out of the country, and i have already a long time a desire to learn to fly, but i never got enough time and money for a ppl, so i decided, that im coming to NY next week for a period of 2-3 weeks, and i gotta finish the lsa licens, my question is im looking it should be the cheapest possible but also be able to do intensive training(like 5 times a week), i really prefer near home like NYC-or NJ, but if you got something special anywhere else, ill be happy to check it out,
another question is if its possible to do a part of the hours in a other lsa aircraft (like glider)?
(please write prices if you know)
thank you all |

My plan was to optimize my time by utilizing some accelerated initial training and then settle in to my one to two lessons a week. I read this great ebook,
"You Can Afford To Be A Pilot" and I've discovered an exceptionally reasonable flight school in Waynesville, Ohio at the Red Stewart Airfield (40I) where at the time of this posting I can train in a J3 Cub or Aeronca Champ for about $90 an hour with instruction, compared to my area where the rates in a Cessna 172 with instruction average about $190.00 an hour. It's 500 miles away, but the savings and a chance to train in a taildragger seems totally worth it. |

Thanks for the answer, im taking it in consideration, but for now specifically Ohio is not the best option(maybe ill do it, because the grate rates) so if any body haves good price recommendation in any of the us states, (preferred NY NJ) ill be happy to get some
thanks a million |

I looked into this place while looking for a flight school and would be using them if I didn't live an hour away with a flight school right down the street.
I actually flew in with a friend named Eric and talked to Carol the owner of the school and she is VERY nice showed us around let us look in her planes and hangars. She is primarily a glider instructor but is about to get a Flight Designs CTLS in and is going to start offering Sport Pilot instruction.
Honestly if I lived closer to their airport I'd be in her school in a heartbeat as the place and people just gave off a really good vibe. |

| If time is an issue, try California. Weather is mostly good, plenty of uncomplicated airspace, and many places offer accelerated training. Central Valley Sportplanes in Fresno advertises complete SP from ground up in two weeks. If you're already advanced, Im sure the time would be much less. |

| Check out http://www.chesapeakesportpilot.com/ located in MD about 4 hours from NYC. They have accelerated programs, and a deal with a local motel for extended stays..They are the largest sport pilot school in the US with 7 Slsa's and 25 instructors. |

| Please pardon the shameless self-promotion, but do check out www.avsport.org. I have one of my three-week intensive courses starting on Monday, and have one vacancy remaining for the M-W-F class. Plus, if you want to double up, I can squeeze you in for weekend lessons as well, so you can get that five days a week of flying in. We have lodging options available, including an on-airport camping trailer that rents for just $100/week. Despite the snow last night  the flying wx at Lock Haven is getting pretty good now. Feel free to contact me off-list for further details. |

If you are considering AZ, better make it in the next
6 weeks or so.
The 100F days are coming. :D |

I strongly second the opinion of CSP in MD. I used to drive 2 hours from Philly to fly there. They have a decent fleet and many instructors. The people including the partners are super to deal with.
Unfortunately I live on Long Island now and too far to travel. to MD If you are looking for an active and good school in the NY area look up Mid Island Air Service. They have been in business since 1947 and have Sportcruisers, Remos and Tecnam on the flight line. They are about 60 miles east of the city, see: http://www.midislandair.com/ |

I concur completely. Lou Mancuso runs a class act at Brookhaven -- nice planes, good maintenance personnel, great instructors. If you just can't fly with me  then go to Mid Island! |

I remember his father Lou Mancuso senior. I have Sportstar time and was going to check out in theirs then you bought it. I'm checked out in all of their other LSA's except the Remos GX. |

Anyone looking for good flight instruction has come to the right place. The “vocal” flight instructors on this web site are the best. They say it plus back it up.
For the list of instructors that qualify go to www.BeASportPilot.com
If you want a vacation out west, not the cheapest, come fly with me at Lake Tahoe. We have the complete program, start to finish. Intro to checkride.
Great option at www.SportAviationCenter.com |
