| I have basically home studied using several different dvd's/books. I took the test at a cats facility and will probably try lasergrade(is that what it's called) next time. 88% :D :D |

Way to go! Now, sit down with your CFI and go over all the subject areas in which you missed questions. You'll need a signoff that you've done that before you can take your checkride.
Keep up the good work, and fly safely. |

Yes this endorsement is many times missed. I have the specific endorsement at:
http://sport-pilot-training.com/endorsements/
along with all the other endorsement examples.
here it is:
I certify that (First name, MI, Last name) has received the required training and demonstrated satisfactory knowledge of deficient areas from the Sport Pilot knowledge test as required per §§ 61.39 for the practical test.
J. J. Jones, 12-25-2004 J. J. Jones 610610CFI 12-06
(this can also be done on the knowledge test itself instead of in the logbook) |

Last year, one of my students scored 100% on his knowledge test. I still had to give him the training. His endorsement read:
"I certify that (First name, MI, Last name) has received the required training and demonstrated satisfactory knowledge of all zero deficient areas from the Sport Pilot knowledge test ..."
As you might guess, he also aced his oral and checkride. :D |

Paul,
Based on
61.39 (6) Have an endorsement, if required by this part, in the applicant's logbook or training record that has been signed by an authorized instructor who certifies that the applicant—
(iii) Has demonstrated satisfactory knowledge of the subject areas in which the applicant was deficient on the airman knowledge test;
It "could" be interporated that no endorsement is needed since the applicent is not deficient in any areas. However, better more than less or missing. |

The signoff for that is attached to the copy of my test that I take to my checkride.
The endorsement that I used to take the written came from ASA.
I've still got gobs to learn and understand that but when Mr. Hamiltons peeps said I could take it I did. I missed questions I shouldn't have but I took the test in 19 minutes. It took them longer to set up and grade. |

| Somewhat along these lines. I am a current Sport Pilot and am looking at the PP upgrade. I imagine I would still need to have an endorsement to go take the PP exam. Yes? And then with each subsequent level another endorsement to take the next level exam I would imagine....? |

That's my understanding, Brian, although I can't cite the relevant FAR offhand.
BTW, I have designed a formal curriculum (as have other CFIs, I'm sure) for folks in your position -- that is, Sport Pilots wanting to upgrade to Private. See http://avsport.org/about/upsize.htm for an idea of what you'll need to do. This would apply to any Sport Pilot who trained with a Subpart H CFI. Unfortunately, as the rules currently stand, the prior dual instruction does not count toward the Private if taken with a Subpart K (Sport Pilot) instructor. Paul Hamilton and I are working to change this, but we have very little influence with the FAA. :(
Best of luck working on your Private -- and most of all, enjoy flying! |

Fortunately all of my training was done with a CFII all the way up through Instrument, so I should be well covered in that area. Thanks for the link - I appreciate it.

| alot of this stuff is confusing, and not many instructors seem interested in what is needed as far as endorsements etc. until time for checkride. If you want to do this you must be persistent and I'm not saying that's bad. |

all the endorsements are listed in a simple and easy to follow format at
http://sport-pilot-training.com/category/endorsements/
I made this so there should be no confusion about what is needed by any CFI or student.
The easiest way to get an endorsement for the Knowledge test is to use the prepware. It provides the endorsement from your own place/computer and makes sure you pass the knowledge test.
