I passed sport pilot check ride yesterday morning. I confess that I had doubt if I could do it, but eventually, I made it. I know this is a starting point of real flying, I may upgrade to Private in the future.
I started mid October; I statyed about 10 days, didn't make solo that time; I went back on thanksgiving, statyed 3 days, yet not made solo either; I think that the reason my solo took so long is interval between trainings too long and un-cooperated weather. This time, I started on Dec 19, made solo on 20th; I did solo cross country on 24, checkride yesterday.
I would say YES to accelerated training with some preconditions: first, student should complete written before training; two weeks are still tight, more reasonable duration would be three. I think I could save a lot if I statyed one or two more days during first stay. My high works are always good, the problem is on landing, I finally made it; on made all 4 landing on numbers on checkride.
I had my training with Lockwood Aviation at Sebring Florida. The planes are Tecnam Echo P-92; they are very forgiving machine though they look a litlle old. Two instructors there are fantastic; they are not those kind young pilot want get out of general aviation; they've stayed in this sector, make a living on teaching people fly. Jeff is very old school, he emphasizes on foot; I think that's the reason my high works is very strong. The downside of the school is the location, prepare to drive 2 hours with traffic lights from any major interstate. |

Congratulations! That's a great accomplishment.
I'm writing an article for Plane & Pilot on people who've taken Sport Pilot training and I'd like to have a chat with you if possible. If you've got a few minutes to talk about your experience, I'll give you a call at a time that's good for you...soon as possible though, it's due in a couple days.
Please send me a private message with your contact # and best time to call and I'll ring you up.
And happy new year to all!
