Ok, so I have this potential student who has bought a Rans 12XL and has asked me if I would teach him to fly in it. It does have an N-number and registration. My understanding is that it is not legal to use for flight training -an I assume this to mean that he can't start a flight school with it, not that I cannot provide him training in his own aircraft... am I wrong?

| The plane can't be used "for hire", so you're right... you can't own it and provide training to others in it. It can't be used as a "flight school rental". The owner of an experimental can always receive training in it (he's only renting you, he's not renting the aircraft). |
