This is 18 miles north of me. He was a dealer for Remos.
Bad news
2 injured in plane crash at Marana airport
Associated Press

MARANA, Ariz. (AP) — Officials say two people suffered serious injuries Saturday morning after the plane they were flying in crashed at the Marana Northwest Regional Airport.
Capt. Adam Goldberg of the Northwest Fire/Rescue District says the 46-year-old flight instructor who was flying the single-engine Remos airplane suffered life-threatening injuries.
A 16-year-old girl who was onboard as an introductory flight for possible flying lessons also suffered serious injuries.
Goldberg says witnesses saw the plane take off, take a hard right, circle around, miss the runway and land in a field next to the runway.
Federal Aviation Administration Kathleen Bergen says the federal agency was investigating the crash. |

"This is 18 miles north of me. He was a dealer for Remos and hadn't sold one yet."
I guess I'm trying to understand the point of your post.
This is a tragedy for all involved. |

...just an awkward way of saying "relatively new Remos dealer"...
Tragic - I've seen the aircraft there, doing touch-n-goes.
Here's a video featuring the subject aircraft, flying in the Marana area. The still photo at the the start of the video is NOT the same aircraft. (nor are the stills in the video)

Hi AZPilot,
It was just a post for info. Several people here fly out of Marana and a few close by airports and know these people. The comment about sales should not have been there and has since been removed. It had nothing to do with the incident and for that I'm sorry I put it in.
It's just a sad tradgedy. |

Howdy Roger,
No problem. It's just that having spent several decades in the FBO/flight training biz, I have experience with a couple of accidents and that the media/public gets it wrong a lot
of the time.
As you know, the flightschool/FBO is highly regarded and been in biz for a couple of decades.
They have been a REMOS dealer since early 2008, and are a CPC, Cessna Service Center, and a large aircraft sales operation.
The CFI is retired AF.
I don't know what went wrong, but let's all keep the CFI and
passenger in our prayers. |

Unfortunately the CFI passed away, may he rest in peace.
My condolences to the family and friends.

Very sad indeed. I would like to know if there were any anomalies
prior to the takeoff. |

| Sad. It will be very important to sort out whether this was a control failure or a spin. Does anyone know if the engine sounded like it was producing power before the crash? |

| So, it looks like poor decision-making may be to blame. Unfortunate! |

Look, in my opinion my gut told me something wasn't right with it. One time there was an "oil pressure" problem, couldnt fly that day, Flat tire one day, and then THE FUEL LEAK I discovered doing my preflight inspection. Im not saying the remos was definitley at fault , but I wouldnt be suprised if it was! I was really disapointed in the trouble it had.
It was Brand new ; and I put down 5k to buy one. I even visited the factory in Germany and was extremely impressed. God rest Bob's soul. Im watching for the final NTSB findings..... sad deal. :( |

I still don't know what to think, Remosguy. It's tough to blame a dead pilot, but it's also hard to understand why he didn't make a radio call if he had mechanical problems.
The Factual Report will probably have any GPS and EFIS data, hopefully along with an analysis of the video that was shot.
Airspeed and altitude are your friend. We lost an ultralight (with a high-time Cessna pilot) in the pattern out here 2-3 months ago. He did a 360 on base to give another plane on final some room. Got slow, spinned it and didn't pull the chute. |

Hi Jim,
I think we may find it was pilot error and was due to trying to make a photo op for the video and was just too low and slow. Nothing has been found so far as far as plane issues. There were several witnesses and I have talked to one of them, plus there is the video itself. It's a wait and see for the final NTSB report. The 16 year old girl student is now back in school. The plane crashed vary hard on the pilot side and he took the full force of the impact. The person I know was one of the people that tried to treat the pilot at the scene. Even though they transported him to the hospital they knew he wasn't going to make it. |

I can see making a low pass over the rwy for a video, but flying the entire pattern less than 200 ft AGL? I don't think so. Something happened with the acft and he was trying to get it back on the deck would be a more likely scenario. |
