I believe the costs are the same but maybe one of the others can chime in with an accurate answer. |

Generally No. This depends on the location, place, person etc.
I personally (CFIS) charge more than the local CFI simply to make enough for me to make it worthwhile.
The industry has lowered the CFI worth because pilots going for the ATP will work for nothing to get their hours. Additionally, many CFI's do it for a hobby and do it just to pay for their flying. This is a big advantage for students but makes it hard for any CFI trying to pay the bills. This is why many of the flight schools fail, flight instructors cannot make enough to survive. Hopefully new Sport Pilot CFIS are doing this for a living and will not continue to lower the wages of CFI's.
When you have to pay an accountant or a computer geek more than a professional flight instructor who is responsible for your life or death, something is wrong with the picture.
In summary, the costs for the flight instructor are about the same. The important part is to find the best flight intructor for you. Typically LSA are less expensive/burn less fuel. |

| Thanks Paul, very nice post. I think from the earlier discussion, all other things being equal, I should look for a CFI if I have any thoughts about pursuing a Private Pilot Certificate. I would prefer to have those hours count. |

As much as I want to get the business as a CFIS I understand. If there is any chance you want to go on to private this makes sense. |
