|
|
Many people have asked where they can rent a Light Sport Aircraft. Let's get all the local flight schools to post their aircraft available for rent here.
In Minnesota, LSA North in Lakeville ~ Airlake KLVN ~ rents the Flight Design CT. Our flight school, Stick-n-Rudder Flight Training, is the official Flight Design Pilot Training Center FDPC for the upper midwest.
Email scottj@lsanorth.com for more information on getting checked out in a CT. See www.lsanorth.com/planning.htm for our rental policies and procedures.
We take pride in our clean and well maintained aircraft. Each airplane is debugged, cleaned and waxed, with Composiclean after every flight. "Ain't no bugs on my windshield." |

| Come down to Southeast NC, take a tailwheel class and you can rent (solo, yes - solo) our Cubcrafters Sport Cub. Unlike those CT guys in the previous post, we have bugs on our windscreen for sure. Also grass in the tailwheel. www.redskyaviation.net BTW we'll also be happy to rent you a Tecnam Sierra if you want that wheel up front instead of in the back. |

| I have a SportStar available for rent at Lock Haven PA as well, if you prefer the other side of the country. My insurance requires me to give you five hours of dual, if you don't have time in make and model, before I can send you off solo. But, who among us (me included) couldn't benefit from five more hours of dual? |

How could I forget Art Tarola (AB Flight)? I've flown with him and he is closer to Philadelphia than Lancaster.. He trains in and sells SportStars but I don’t think he rents except to his student.
There used to be a Kappa 5 at LOM I saw it up close on the field but they sold it before I could start a checkout. Low demand for Sport Pilot, at least that is what they said. This page is no longer on their main site. This is a Face Book page with a picture of N43KP. This is on the KappaAircraft site. and they now call it Skyleadrer 600. They are in Pocono Pines, PA.
There also was a Skyarrow on the field by another operator who moved.
The next nearest to Philly is Van Sants. It's a nice grass field with J3's for LSA and gliders. A lot of nice old planes there. One of the nicest fileds I've been to. Reminds me of the old days. A picnic area behind the office rught off the runway. You sit and watch the planes go by. A real fun place to visit! |

OK I got caught up in the idea of a list to put on my website. Then it hit me, we are trying to reinvent the wheel here!
See: bydanjohnson It tells you everything you want to know about Ligh Sport, Flight Instruction (FI), Rental(R) or Maintenance (M). Click on a column heading to sort it. |

Skyhaven Airport 76N Tunkhannock PA
I've got a Piper PA-11 85 hp electric start. The airplane has a nosewheel or tailwheel landing gear configuration depending on season. Skis soon.
Per Hour $70 Airplane $30 instructor $4.20 PA sales tax
We can do Tailwheel checkouts in your own airplane. |

Does the PA-11 qualify under LSA rules? |

It is on the FAA list.

The PA-11 is 1220 lbs gross. 1320 lb on floats. Under the SP limit.
Actually the J-3 and PA-11 have the same FAA type certificate.
Where it gets confusing is the PA-18-95 looks very similar but has 1500 gross weight. |

I tihnk the best would be to get whoever is responsible for the sportpilot.org to keep their database updated and add businesses that have rentals. If I want to rent a year from now, digging through old forum threads is not going to work. The problem is the churn. LSAs keep going online and off as leases are signed and expire. Where I live, no FBO keeps a "fleet" with any permanency. 6 months lease and adieu.

I flew the Kappa at KLOM. Wonderful wide body LSA!
Also had the opportunity to meet the USA importer of Kappa aircraft.
Great guy. I don't believe that they get involved with rental but they might have a new Kappa / Skyleader available.
Absolutely beautiful plane to fly.
