Would it be possible to get a ballpark estimate on insurance for a Jabiru J400 (2006)? I am working on my PPL and have just over 60hrs total and I am preparing for my checkride as of now and I hope to have that completed ASAP.

Any ballpark estimate would be greatly appreciated.

Lots to think about whenever LSA insurance comes up.

Here's a good first step:

Also, an overview of how aircraft and liability insurance work, and things that determine how much you'll pay:

http://www.eaa.org/insurance/non_owner_brochure.pdf

Some of the issues: how much value do you want your aircraft insurance to cover? Deductibles? How much protection do you want for liability?

Ask your instructor and the aircraft owner (FBO) about insurance needs.

Be sure to ask about subrogation. It can surprise you in the worst way possible, especially if you have assets to protect. Most folks don't have a clue about it, and that can cost them a *lot*.

You may want to also try the AOPA insurance agency: www.aopaia.com
800-622-AOPA

Falcon Insurance's Bob Mackey is listed as the moderator of the SPT insurance area. Here's the main Falcon number: (830) 257-1000

Good luck - let us know what you find.

So - what did you find out when you contacted the insurance offices?

If the hull value is around $110K to $120K and it is being rented, you are probably looking betwen $5k and $6.5k. If you are using for yourself, it could be between $2.5k and $4k.

Glad you finally got some numbers! Insurance often seems to be the real PITA for LSA owners.

Say, how does that figure sound to you? What you were expecting?

Could you share with us how much coverage that figure would provide? Amount of hull coverage? Amount of liability coverage?

Thanks.

Seems pretty high to me but I am new to all of this.
Below is a cutout from the estimate I was given.
LEGAL LIABILITY PROTECTION:
Single Limit Each Occurrence Including Passengers
Sub Limit per Passenger if applicable:
$1,000,000
$100,000
LIMITS OF LIABILITY MEDICAL PAYMENTS
$3,000
Each Passenger
Total Policy Premium $3,454
Plus any applicable taxes

I have 2 more requests coming in soon I hope and I will post those figures once I have them. From other forums I was estimating 2400.00 per year and I was thinking it would drop after the 1st / 2nd year after I pile up a bunch of hours.

Being new to this do insurance rates typically drop after 200hrs time in plane?

Check with avemco. they seem to be the best deal that I could find. Just my opinion.

2445.00 from Falcon Insurance - Very quick turn around on quote...this was more what I expected. Nearing completion of PPL having low hours and all.
