Isn't the Sub' E81 an auto convesion? How does that work on an LSA. It's a nice engine and all, I've been considering it for my homebuild. But for an LSA?

I have to agree here, that the choice of an E81 is an issue. The E81 is actually a decent engine, and is good for an E-LSA kit, as the builder would then be able to work on it. On an S-LSA however, the owner will have a problem finding someone able or willing to work on it. Finding people with experience working on the Rotax 912 is still a chore.

E81 shouldn't be a problem, just drive it into your local Subaru dealer. (at least it might help parts availability and price)

Seriously, what is the price differential beween the 912 and the E81 and how much did you have to change the engine to make it work in an aircraft. Did you use one of the conversion shops we may have seen advertised or did the airframe manufacturer make the conversion? And if the airframe manufacturer did the conversion, will they be offering it to builders?

Let me guess, $10,000 difference between the EA81 and a ULS? Maybe as much as $15000.

I've heard from someone that may well know, that the EA81 was originally designed as an aircraft engine, but it came out at exactly the wrong time so it got stuck into Brats instead. I have no substantiation of the at all. I wondered if you might now anything about it?

To be honest, its up in the air. The rotax has just now been installed in the aircraft and will be an option. So time will tell. I wanted a general idea of what people want in an aircraft as far as look and feel. That's why I started the thread. We are still in the early days and can change things up.
My idea is to keep the aircraft at a low cost. That again is why LSA's are out there. So that a person can afford to fly. I keep seeing the market go up on prices with the same aircraft.
It WILL be an airplane that will spare NO expense in quality but will still compete with the best out there and the price will be very affordable!

Rsteele - I've heard that also but I really don't know where it came from. Sorry.
